Four Players Chasing the Arena Dream in 2024

Updated at Feb 5, 2024

Here are four players chasing the Arena Dream during the 2024 AFL season.

Chase Fourcade - QB Louisiana Voodoo

It’s always special when a player gets a chance to represent their home state. This is the case for Louisiana native-born Chase Fourcade, who has signed with the Voodoo this season. Fourcade was born in Metairie and played both football and baseball at Archbishop Rummel High School in Jefferson Parish. He would go on to start three seasons under center there.

In his junior year, the young quarterback threw for 1,652 yards and 14 touchdowns. He added another 513 yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground. His Raiders compiled an 11-1 record and a trip to the Division I semifinals.

After high school, Fourcade would stay in the Pelican State and attend Nicholls State University in Thibodaux. He would waste no time taking the reins starting all 11 games for the Colonels as a true freshman. In fact, he missed just one start in his entire college career due to injury. Fourcade still holds the Nicholls records for passing yards (10,707), passing touchdowns (70), total yards (12,604), and rushing touchdowns (35).

Professionally, the signal-caller has spent time with the Columbus Lions of the NAL. He earned a preseason opportunity with the Calgary Stampeders. The Pittsburgh Maulers signed Fourcade to compete for a spot on the 2023 roster.

On December 26th, 2023, the Voodoo announced they had signed Fourcade. For the first time since college, the record-breaking homegrown quarterback will get to compete on Louisiana soil just over 200 miles away from where his football journey began.

Kiante Northington - DB Iowa Rampage

Northington started his football journey as a wide receiver, defensive back, and punt returner in Louisville, Kentucky earning first-team all-district honors at all three positions. After high school, he would take his talents to Eastern Kentucky University as a wideout.

He spent the 2012 season as a redshirt and was moved to the defensive back position. The following year, he saw his first action as a redshirt freshman. Northington made an appearance in all 11 games in 2013, starting in seven of the last eight of the season. He did not miss a game over the next three seasons. The versatile back spent two full seasons as a starter at both safety and cornerback. Sadly, he did not land on a team after college and ended up coaching at his former high school.

His first taste of professional football came in 2018 with the Massachusetts Pirates of the NAL. Team brass were impressed by his film, and he was offered a contract. As a rookie, Northington would end the season as the league leader in interceptions (12) returning one of them for a touchdown. On top of that, his 63.5 total tackles were the eighth most in the league.

In 2019, Northington landed with the Atlantic City expansion team in the AFL. He led the Blackjacks in total tackles (65) and was second on the team with two interceptions. From there, Northington returned to the NAL in 2021 with the Jacksonville Sharks. He made five appearances there, accounting for 32 tackles and two interceptions. The following season, he and the Northern Arizona Wranglers would earn a championship in the Indoor Football League. He returned to the Pirates for the 2023 season.

The Rampage announced the signing of the veteran DB on November 26th, 2023. He brings with him valuable experience in the arena game and instantly makes Iowa a defense to fear this season.

Drequan Brown - FB/DL Salina Liberty

Brown was a multi-threat athlete during his time at Bremen High School in Midlothian, Illinois, just outside of Chicago. The talented youngster lined up as a running back and wide receiver on offense. On top of that, he crossed over to play outside linebacker as well.

After high school, Brown went on to play linebacker at Independence Community College in Independence, Kansas. He appeared in nine games during the 2016 season, accumulating 98 total tackles and two sacks.

He landed a spot on the roster at the University of Central Oklahoma for the 2017 season. He appeared in 12 games that year with a total of seven tackles and two sacks. His best season in college saw him amass 32 total tackles in 11 games with the Bronchos. He also had 8.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks.

Brown was on the roster in 2021 for The Spring League champion Linemen. He went on to sign with the Houston Gamblers of the USFL, where he recorded 13 total tackles in five appearances. The Liberty announced his signing on December 26, 2023, via social media.

Nick Haag - LB Albany Firebirds

Albany continued to stack their roster by bringing a long-time veteran of the game to the team. Haag has played across the spectrum of football and has been successful in all of them. The Worcester, Massachusetts native played his high school ball at Holy Name Central Catholic at the quarterback position. Haag led his squad to back-to-back titles in 2006 and 2007 finishing his high school career with a 12-0 record.

His college journey began with a season at UMass, where he would make an appearance in all 11 games. In that time, he played on special teams and as a linebacker, tallying 22 total tackles. In 2010, Haag moved back home and transferred to Assumption University. By 2012, he was a team captain and had earned both first and second-team All-Conference recognition.

Haag has made several stops on his way to Albany, including two NFL training camp invitations with the Indianapolis Colts and the New York Giants. He has also suited up for the Philadelphia Soul, the Chicago Crush, and the Atlantic City Blackjacks of the AFL. On top of that, Haag also played for the Cedar Rapids Titans of the IFL where he amassed 94 tackles, four sacks, and two fumble recoveries.

His arena game experience was strengthened even further as a member of the Massachusetts Pirates of the NAL. In 2022, Haag helped the Albany Empire win their second straight NAL championship.

The Firebirds wasted no time keeping the veteran in New York, announcing his signing on November 2, 2023. Albany is hoping Haag will hoist another trophy for the city in his return to the Arena Football League.
