Updated at Feb 14, 2024

The quarterback position is one of the most discussed in all of sports. The men leading these offenses are going to be major players in the overall narrative of the Arena Football League

The quarterback position is one of the most discussed in all of sports. A good QB controls all aspects of the offense and knows every single position’s responsibilities. The men leading these offenses are going to be major players in the overall narrative of the league.

AFL West

Billings Outlaws

Christian Arrambide

Measurables: Kentucky Wesleyan - 6-2, 220 lbs

Stats: 52% completion, 2,262 yards, 16 touchdowns, 9 rushing TDs

Arrambide is the strongest case for the Outlaws' starting spot. He is fresh out of Kentucky Wesleyan College. As a three-year starter, he played in 28 games, passing for 41 touchdowns and 5,400 yards. He fits the role of a modern quarterback, considering he can control both the air and ground game, rushing for an additional 13 touchdowns and 400 yards. He is coming straight out of college into the AFL, but with much evidence that he can produce and be a solid signal caller for the Outlaws.

Isaac Harker

Measurables: Colorado School of Mines, 6-0, 195 lbs

Stats: 67% completion, 4,000 yards, 39 touchdowns, 10-2 record

Harker spent three years at Indiana State and one year at Colorado Mines. He signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the CFL in 2019 after his senior season, where he was initially QB3, but he was able to start the first game of the season due to the injuries of his two predecessors.

Danny Southwick

Measurables: Occidental College, 6-1, 210 lbs

He has 10 seasons of Arena Football play under his belt, dating back to the 2008 season of the AF2 with the Louisville Fire. He has a wide range of experience in five different leagues, which includes the NFL.

Oregon Blackbears

Connor Kaegi

Measurables: Ottawa University, 6-7, 225 lbs

Stats: 2,707 yards, 26 touchdowns, 3 rush TDs

At 6-7 and 225 lbs, Kaegi is a mountain of a man. He played collegiately for Ottawa University and most recently played in Germany for the Berkinn Rebels. In 2023, he led the Rebels to a 6-7 regular season and a playoff berth. At his 2020 pro day, he ran his 40-yard dash in 4.9 seconds- above average for a guy of his size in his position.

Washington Wolfpack

Rodney Raines

Raines played for the Everett Royals of the Gridiron Developmental Football League, playing a very crucial role in the 2023 season. The Royals had previously gone 0-8 in the 2022 regular season. However, the following year was met with a stunning revival. With an offense led by Raines, the Royals put together a stunning 7-1 regular season with first place in their division. This clearly displays Raines’ leadership potential for the Wolfpack.

Jacob Ta’Ase

Measurables: Central Washington University, 5-11, 175 lbs

Stats (GDFL): 10 gm, 38 touchdowns, 3,000 yards

Ta’Ase is going to be an exciting case coming into this season. He was a quarterback for two years in high school, but once he got to college, he ended up in the wide receiver spot. Since leaving college, he has played in two Arena Football games, but that is where the pool dries up as far as the indoor game goes. He did have a pretty impressive stint in the GDFL, where he won Offensive Player of the Year.

Rapid City Marshals

Henry Ogala

Measurables: Western Illinois University, 6-3, 220 lbs

Stats: 50% completion, 384 yards, 4 touchdowns

Ogala is going to be a new face in professional football. He played his last season of college ball back in 2022, and this will be his first season of football since then. Here is an interesting fact about him- he holds dual citizenship in the U.S. and Nigeria.

Nik Rango

Measurables: Hudson Valley Community College, 6-2, 210 lbs

Stats: 51% completion, 2,098 yards, 13 touchdowns

Rango was bringing the roof down at Hudson Valley CC before COVID shut down his senior season with the Vikings. He has had multiple workouts for international talent since then, including the CFL and European League of Football. Rango has been described as a wide-receiver-friendly quarterback who can lead the offense through the air.

Jack Sheehan

Measurables: Roosevelt University, 6-1, 215 lbs

Stats: 54% completion, 1,597 yards, 15 touchdowns

Sheehan is another youngster in the Marshals QB room. This season, he is entering his second season of professional football with good expectations following his rookie season. As a starter in the IFL, Sheehan posted a 57% completion rate with 38 touchdowns and 1,841 yards. However, his impact spans farther than on the field. Sheehan has been through much hardship to get to this point in his career. His durability and relentlessness should provide lots of intangibles and mental strength to the Marshals.

AFL East

Albany Firebirds

Jake Medlock

Measurables: Valdosta State, 6-3, 226 lbs

Stats: 11gm, 70% completion, 16 touchdowns, 7 rush TDs

Jake Medlock is coming into the AFL after some time off from football, but the resumé checks out. He spent three seasons at Florida International, where he played 25 games and threw for 18 touchdowns against just nine interceptions. After playing collegiately, he spent time professionally in the CFL and several indoor football leagues.

Evan Lewandowski

Measurables: University of Wisconsin Whitewater, 6-4, 195 lbs

Stats: 62% completion, 20 touchdowns, 2,568 yards

Lewandowski comes out of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and into the AFL for his rookie season. He had 20 games over two seasons- 2021 and 2022, featuring 22 total touchdowns and over 2500 yards on 62% completion. It is impossible to predict who will come out on top between him and Jake Medlock, but Lewandowski is young and has more recent experience– two points to him.

Minnesota Myth

The Minnesota Myth have not yet announced a quarterback signing. Based on signings in other skill positions, it is likely the Myth are targeting somebody with a wealth of professional and Arena Football experience. This should help balance a roster that is currently young and relatively inexperienced when it comes to the arena game.

Among the offense is Onte Burns, who is listed as a full back and a linebacker. He is a highly accomplished collegiate linebacker. With Southwest Minnesota State, he claimed three first-team all-conference honors and All-American second-team honors. However, he was a career linebacker and did not take a snap on offense. He is clearly athletic and tough, so he will likely adapt well to the fullback position.

Additionally, Brian Sandifer and Isaiah Malone fill potential wide receiver spots. Both Sandifer and Malone are highly talented but relatively inexperienced and would benefit from a veteran quarterback.

Nashville Kats

Ramone Atkins

Measurables: New Mexico Highlands, 6-4, 230 lbs

Stats: 19 gm, 24 touchdowns, 3,409 total yards

Atkins is a mountain of a man at 6-4 and 230 lbs. Atkins has been a dangerous offensive leader since his time at New Mexico Highlands University, and he has provided continued dominance in his pro career. His first year professionally garnered him the Offensive Rookie of the Year for the IFL in 2022. He got his chance to lead the offense after an injury sidelined the man ahead of him, and he did not turn back. He led the league with 159.4 yards per game and tied for second with 50 TD passes.

Cooper Callis

Measurables: Southwest Baptist University, 6-3, 215lbs

Stats: 68% completion, 73 touchdowns, 8,119 yards, 308.5 ypg

Callus is an experienced collegiate play-caller who has spent three seasons with Southwest Baptist University. In only 25 career games, he threw for a mammoth 73 touchdowns with a stunning 68% completion rate. He is very much set up as an air-raid-style quarterback, so it will be interesting to see if he can adapt to a tighter field in the AFL.

Charlie Brewer

Measurables: Baylor University, 6-1, 210 lbs

Stats: 10,739 yards, 62% completion, 77 total touchdowns, 220.5 ypg

Many college football fans will recognize the name Charlie Brewer. He was an elite quarterback for four years at Baylor, where he sits among the greatest to ever come through that program. At Baylor, he sits 2nd all-time in passing yards, 1st in completions, and 2nd in touchdown passes. He is only the 2nd player in program history to amass 10,000 yards in a career. He has the name, the accolades, and the stats, but now he has to take a stand in what is a crowded Kats QB room.

Philadelphia Soul

Mitch Kidd

Measurables: University of the Redlands, 5-11, 200

Stats: 8 gm, 53% completion, 44 Touchdowns

Mitch Kidd stands just below the average build of a quarterback, but he plays like he is 6-6. He last played with the University of the Redlands in 2017, jumping into pro ball immediately after. He can command both the air and ground game.

Kidd has been a high performer in his last couple of seasons. In 2022, he was both MVP and Offensive Player of the Year in the FCF. He immediately followed that with another high-production season with the West Texas Warbirds. He threw for 14 TDs to only 7 Interceptions in seven games. As a dual-threat quarterback, his legs are equally sound, rushing for another three touchdowns over the season.

Alphonso Howard

Measurables: Eastern Kentucky University, 6-1, 205 lbs

Stats: 8 gm, 510 yards

Howard comes into the league with minimal professional experience. He did play 8 games for Eastern Kentucky back in 2018 and has had scattered stints with professional teams since then. It is mostly a blank slate for him as he heads into the AFL.
